Congratulations to Amanda Overland

Amanda OverlandAmanda Overland was the winner for 2005 at the eighth annual Kitchener-Waterloo and area Athlete of the Year Awards.
Amanda came into her own on the international scene last year and was a silver medallist in the 3,000-metre relay in her first Olympics in Turin.
Amanda trains in Montreal and is already thinking ahead to the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
She also said that short track skaters peak between the ages of 24 and 28, which means she'll still be in her prime four years from now.
"I do believe I was at the right level to achieve an individual medal at this last Olympics," she said. "I think at the next Olympics I should be there, bang on and ready."

  • In Turin, she had a fifth-place finish in the 1,500-metre race and a team silver in the short-track relay
  • In 2005, Overland won her first gold in the 3,000-metre relay at the World Cup China and was 10th overall individually
  • At World Cup U.S.A. she had her first individual medal, a silver in the 1,000 metres
  • Won bronze in the 1,500 at World Cup Slovakia
  • In 2005 world championships in Beijing, she was a member of Canada's world- champion relay team
Individually, she was eighth overall with a fourth in the 1,000
